In recent months, we have witnessed significant challenges to DEIA nationwide. Despite these obstacles, BroadFutures remains committed to our mission to create meaningful opportunities for neurodivergent young people and employers recognizing their exceptional skills and talents.
Our commitment is not just a statement—it is a lived practice. Diversity is a fundamental strength that drives innovation, understanding, and potential - not a trend to debate. While the current climate can marginalize and divide, we choose action, education, and unwavering commitment and support.
Protections for people with disabilities, especially the neurodivergent young people we serve, are under threat. Restrictions on individualized education plans, accommodations, and support services are increasing significantly, limiting opportunities and inclusive learning environments. In response, we are strengthening our programs and amplifying the voices of our community. Our work proves that true inclusion and collaboration benefit everyone. Talent knows no single neurological pathway.
To our supporters, partners, and community: Stay engaged. Stay committed. Together, we will continue building bridges of understanding and opportunity.
With determination,
Carolyn Jeppsen
Winter 2025 Internship Program: Check In
Our interns are thriving in their internships. Alongside their workplace experiences, they have actively participated in our interactive training sessions on Fridays. They have learned to self-advocate, perfect their resumes and LinkedIn profiles, prepare for interviews, and manage stress.
This month, self-advocate AJ Link joined us as he shared his inspiring journey with our interns. Additionally, we have partnered with Only Make Believe, where they have been learning stress management techniques that could be directly translated to the workplace.
Only Make Believe (OMB) is a nonprofit organization that brings interactive theatre to people with disabilities.OMB empowers participants to think critically, express emotions, and explore their creativity through engaging, interactive performances.
Overall, our interns have been implementing the tools they are learning from training at their current internships and exhibiting incredible growth and impact.
We are also thrilled to congratulate the Winter 2025 Program Booz Allen Cohort who have demonstrated remarkable growth and dedication throughout their time in the program. We are grateful for our partnership with Booz Allen Hamilton and thank everyone involved for making this program a success!

This month we would like to highlight one of our new employer partners. The Washington Chorus, a symphonic choir based here in DC. The three-time nominated and two-time Grammy Award-winning ensemble has over 200 members performing at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Strathmore, and throughout the DC Metropolitan area.
Deputy Director, Emma Moores provided us with her reflection on their experience to date with BroadFutures. “All of us at The Washington Chorus have been really enjoying our new partnership with BroadFutures. The structure and support systems in place are fantastic and have made our internship experience smooth and fulfilling. Our small, tight-knit team loves having our intern in the office, adding to the camaraderie and professionalism of our group. She contributes to the team in so many ways, including increasing our bandwidth by taking on important responsibilities that lighten our workload, as well as bringing a much-appreciated fresh perspective on our work. We are truly grateful for this partnership, the training our team received going into the process, and the commitment to continually improving our experience.”
Thank you Washington Chorus for being an amazing partner and thank you Emma for your impactful words.
